International 8x8 checkers rules

There are two main traditions in checkers: checkers played on 10x10 and on 8x8 boards, and there are many national variations. In the Netherlands, for example, the official game is played on a 10x10 board. The Xelagot bots play on a 8x8 board, using the following set of rules:

The game is played on the dark squares. Each player has 12 pieces, called 'men'. Reds start. 'Men' can move and jump forwards, kings can do that both forwards and backwards. You move diagonally to a neighbouring empty square, you jump over an opponet's piece on a neighbouring square to an empty square behind it. If you may jump, you must. If you have the choice to jump with more than one piece, you are free to choose which piece will jump. Once you start a jump, you must continue jumping with the same piece until there are no more possibilities left to jump. When a 'man' reaches the last row, it is crowned and becomes a king. Traditionally, the oponent crowns the piece, here the bot does that silently:) If you can't move or have no pieces left, you lose. The bot does not detect a draw, so players must decide themselves and clear the bord.
